Our route of Romanticism will take you into the heart of the Cultural Landscape of Sintra, UNESCO World Heritage and its fabulous architectural monuments.
Our journey into the amazing 19th Century begins at Pena Park. Indulge in the intimacy of its gardens and large Victorian lakes. From here we will visit the “Pena” palace and its gorgeous architecture, and we will understand the historical importance of this gorgeous palace. Afterwards, we will visit its romantic botanical gardens, one of the most beautiful in all Europe,a true tribute to the “Romanticism” movement.
The Mouros Castle, with about 1.000 years of history will be our next visit. Step back even further in time we will also see the remains of villages from the Neolithic period about five thousand years old. From the castle, the endless views are quite impressive, as also the massive walls where, many centuries ago, witnessed ferocious battles for the control of this strategic spot.
As an optional experience, after the visit to the castle, we will go to the most typical village inside the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, whose beginnings date back to the sixteenth century, the “Holy Spirit” village. Known for its countless fountains and streams, it will be here where we will have lunch in a rural tavern where we can taste the local food.
